An unauthorized tractor-trailer became stuck in the median on a stretch of the Taconic State Parkway, blocking lanes, and causing hours-long gridlock.

The incident began to unfold in Westchester County around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in New Castle at mile marker 10.

As a result of the incident, all southbound lanes of the parkway at the scene were closed to traffic.

Vehicles that were on the parkway at the time began slowly passing the truck on the shoulder, New York State Police said.

Details about how the tractor-trailer entered the parkway, and then became stuck were not released.
